CCMCO offers several categories of mold coatings- Graphite, Zircon, and Alumina Based. Graphite and Alumina based mold coatings are available to our customers in wet form in 55 gallon drums. All of our mold coatings are available in 5 gallon pails, as well.

Mold coating is applied before metal is poured into a spinning mold. It is used to protect the metal mold, control the cooling rate, obtain the right microstructure, aid in extraction of castings, and help customers achieve their desired casting surface finishes.

Inappropriate mixing and application of mold coating is a cause of defective castings. Customers using CCMCO mold coatings can depend on our experts to help alleviate defects based on wash application.

AVP-1 Mold Coating

AVP-1 Alumina based premixed mold coating is our most popular mold coating. It is used for both ferrous and non-ferrous material. This mold coating has a higher refractoriness or higher melting point and thererfore it is especially ideal for steel castings. AVP-1 mold coating is available in 55 gallon drumns with no minimum requirement. Five gallon pails are also available in increments of 6 pails.

AVP-3 Mold Coating

AVP-3 Alumina based mold coating has increased insulation properties for thin wall castings and radiant tubes. this allows for hotter die temperatures due to an increased amount of water available in the coating. AVP-3 mold coating is available in 55 gallon drums with no minimum requirement. Five gallon pails are also available in increments of 6 pails.

GVP-1 Mold Coating

GVP-1 Graphite based premixed mold coating is made of high solids graphite slurry and primarily used for non-ferrous material. GVP-1 mold coating comes in 55 gallon drums with no minimum requirement. Five gallon pails are also available in increments of 6 pails.

ZVP-1 Mold Coating

ZVP-1 Zircon based prexed mold coating is made of fine mesh zircon flour and aluminum silicate refractory. It has a high thermal stability and employs a combination of special binders to maximize adherence to steel or graphite molds. ZVP-1 is especially useful as an undercoat in places where metal hits the mold and other coatings wash away. ZVP-1 mold coating comes in 5 gallon pails only and must be ordered in increments of 10 pieces. It is also recommended that this mold coating be freeze protected during transit to your facility.
